Raymond James Cornett, a 53-year-old resident of Sacramento, has pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child, according to an announcement by United States Attorney Eric Grant.
Court documents indicate that Cornett requested and received videos and images from a woman in Canada depicting a six-year-old and a seven-year-old victim engaged in sexually explicit conduct. He also admitted to requesting similar material involving two other minor victims.
The investigation involved the Sacramento Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Roger Yang is prosecuting the case. Canadian authorities prosecuted the woman involved in Canada.
Cornett is set for sentencing before U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb on December 8, 2025. He faces up to 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The actual sentence will be determined by the court based on statutory factors and Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at addressing child sexual exploitation and abuse across the country. The project coordinates federal, state, and local efforts to find offenders and assist victims.
