Mark Sigl, a 63-year-old resident of Antelope, has entered a guilty plea for the attempted coercion and enticement of a minor. Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith made the announcement.
Court documents reveal that in March 2024, Sigl engaged in communication with an individual he believed to be the father of a 10-year-old girl. The supposed father was actually an undercover officer. Sigl expressed his intention to engage in sexual acts with the child and arranged to meet at a specified location. Upon arrival at the site, Sigl was apprehended by law enforcement officers, who also found several sex-related items in his vehicle.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the Sacramento Valley High Tech Crimes Taskforce conducted the investigation leading to this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zulkar Khan is handling the prosecution.
Sigl’s sentencing is set for October 7, 2025, before U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez. He could face up to life imprisonment and a $250,000 fine; however, the final sentence will be determined by considering statutory factors and Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, initiated by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative aims to utilize federal, state, and local resources to apprehend offenders and rescue victims.
