Kyle Travis Colton, a 38-year-old resident of Citrus Heights in Sacramento County, was sentenced to six years and eight months in federal prison for receiving child sex abuse material. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Dale A. Drozd, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Eric Grant.

Evidence presented during the trial showed that law enforcement found Colton’s laptop at his home containing numerous images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of young children. Investigators determined that between July 2022 and December 2023, Colton downloaded this material, which was stored on his computer desktop and downloads folder. He also created bookmarks linking to websites known for hosting child pornography.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Shea J. Kenny prosecuted the case.

After sentencing, Colton was taken into custody by the Bureau of Prisons to begin serving his sentence immediately.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates resources among federal, state, and local agencies to find and prosecute individuals who exploit children as well as identify victims. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.usdoj.gov/psc under the “resources” tab for internet-safety education.
