A recent court filing highlights a serious allegation against several public entities in California, accusing them of negligence that led to personal injuries. Isabella Murillo has filed a complaint in the Superior Court of California, County of Ventura, on August 19, 2025, targeting the State of California, the California Department of Transportation, and local governments including the City of Ventura and City of Ojai.

The lawsuit stems from an incident on February 21, 2025, when Murillo allegedly drove into a significant pothole on State Highway 150 near Casitas Pass Road in Ventura County. The complaint claims that this dangerous condition was known to the defendants but was negligently left unaddressed. Murillo’s legal team from Quirk Law Firm LLP argues that these public entities failed in their duty to maintain safe road conditions and neglected to warn drivers about potential hazards. “Defendants knew or should have known about the dangerous condition,” states the complaint, emphasizing that prior complaints had been made regarding the road’s state.

Murillo is seeking damages for her injuries which she attributes directly to this negligence. The lawsuit cites violations under Government Code § 815.2 for negligent acts by employees within their employment scope and Government Code § 835 for maintaining a dangerous condition on public property. She claims these breaches resulted in severe physical and emotional distress, leading to medical expenses and loss of earnings.

The plaintiff requests compensation for general damages as well as specific costs related to medical treatment and lost income due to her injuries. Her attorneys argue that despite having ample time and resources to address these road conditions, the defendants failed to act responsibly.

Representing Murillo are attorneys Trevor Quirk and Daneel Touma from Quirk Law Firm LLP. The case is being overseen by Judge Joan Foster under Case No.: 025 CUPPO493 22.
