A couple’s trust in a repair shop has turned into a legal battle over alleged contract breaches and misrepresentations. On January 16, 2026, William Ryan and Tamara Ryan filed a complaint in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, against Steve Wood and Panavia Engineering Group, LLC. The Ryans accuse the defendants of failing to deliver on promises related to an automobile repair project.

The case revolves around a Superformance GT40 that the Ryans entrusted to Panavia Engineering Group for engine and transmission rebuilding. According to the plaintiffs, an agreement was made in December 2022 with an estimated cost under $20,000. However, invoices received from Panavia Engineering allegedly totaled over $49,000 without proper authorization or completion of work. “Defendant had substantially damaged the vehicle,” claim the Ryans, citing unauthorized charges and incomplete repairs. The couple further alleges that parts were removed without consent and never returned.

The Ryans are seeking damages for breach of contract and various other claims including intentional misrepresentation and negligence. They allege that Panavia’s actions have caused them additional expenses totaling $74,279 above the initial estimate due to subsequent repairs needed at another facility. The lawsuit lists multiple causes of action such as false advertising under Business & Professions Code § 17500 and unfair competition under § 17200.

In their plea for relief, the Ryans request general and special damages according to proof at trial, exemplary damages for fraudulent conduct, civil penalties for violations of business codes, attorney fees, and injunctive relief against further deceptive practices by the defendants. They also demand restitution for unjust enrichment gained by Panavia through unauthorized charges.

Representing William and Tamara Ryan is Solomon A. Cheifer from his law office in Corona, California. The case is presided over by Judge M. Bui under Case ID 26CV484663.
