Greene & Maloney, PC has filed a legal complaint that brings to light a complex financial dispute involving multiple parties over settlement funds. The law firm, acting as the plaintiff in interpleader, filed this complaint on November 12, 2025, in the Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento. The case involves defendants Li Wen Sa, Dr. Kristin Andruska, and The Arnold Law Firm.
The crux of the matter began when Greene & Maloney, PC entered into a contingency fee agreement with Li Wen (Susan) Sa for her lawsuit against El Dorado Irrigation District. This agreement was part of a larger case that involved Ms. Sa’s claims stemming from an incident at Sly Park Recreation Area on July 4, 2019. During this outing, Ms. Sa suffered a severe arm fracture due to alleged negligence by A Current Adventure’s employee during a canoe rental activity. After years of litigation and negotiation led by Greene & Maloney, PC—who replaced The Arnold Firm as her counsel—Ms. Sa agreed to settle her claims for $325,000 on February 11, 2025.
However, the settlement has not brought closure but rather opened up disputes regarding its distribution. Two significant liens are at the heart of this conflict: one from Dr. Kristin Andruska for expert witness fees amounting to $3,000 and another from The Arnold Firm concerning prior attorney costs totaling $53,789.02. Despite attempts by Greene & Maloney to resolve these disputes amicably through negotiations among all parties involved—including Ms. Sa’s instructions not to pay these liens—the situation remains unresolved.
In response to these competing claims over the settlement funds currently held in their client trust account ($56,789.02), Greene & Maloney has initiated an interpleader action under Code of Civil Procedure §386(c). This legal maneuver seeks court intervention to determine rightful ownership and distribution of the contested funds while protecting themselves from potential double liability arising from conflicting demands.
The firm is requesting several forms of relief from the court: directing all defendants in interpleader to litigate their claims within this action; ordering Greene & Maloney to deposit the disputed funds with the court clerk; ensuring fair distribution among claimants; restraining further legal actions against them regarding these funds; discharging them from any liabilities related thereto; and awarding reasonable attorneys’ fees incurred during this process.
Representing Greene & Maloney is attorney Michael D. Maloney from their Sacramento office located at 1912 F Street Suite 110 (Tel.: [916] 442-6400). The presiding judge over Case No.: PE26200437 will ultimately decide how justice should be served amidst these tangled financial interests.
