A former employee has filed a class-action lawsuit against her previous employer, alleging numerous violations of California labor laws. Kathryn Conwell initiated the complaint on October 21, 2025, in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, targeting MedVet for Pets, Inc., MedVet California, Inc., and unnamed defendants.
Conwell claims that MedVet failed to pay minimum wages and overtime as required by law. She alleges that employees were not compensated for all hours worked, including post-shift tasks and work performed during meal breaks. “Defendants had a consistent policy of not paying Employees wages for all hours worked,” the complaint states. Furthermore, Conwell accuses MedVet of failing to provide lawful meal and rest periods, resulting in employees working through their breaks without proper compensation. The plaintiff asserts that these practices violate various sections of the California Labor Code and Business & Professions Code.
The lawsuit seeks multiple forms of relief from the court. Conwell is asking for compensatory damages for unpaid wages and overtime from at least four years prior to filing the action. Additionally, she seeks liquidated damages equal to unpaid minimum wages with interest and penalties under several sections of the Labor Code. The complaint also demands restitution for unfair competition under Business & Professions Code ยง 17200 et seq., along with an injunction against further violations by MedVet.
Representing Conwell are attorneys Roman Shkodnik and Emma Geesaman from D.LAW, INC., based in Glendale, California. The case has been assigned to Judge M. Johnson under Case No. 25CV478178.
