A serious dog attack incident has led to a lawsuit being filed in Ventura County, California. The complaint was lodged by Varadarajan Ramabadran on August 18, 2025, against Preeti Regi and Regi Varghese, alleging negligence and strict liability after being attacked by their German Shepherd. The case highlights the responsibilities of pet owners in maintaining control over their animals to prevent harm to others.

The lawsuit was filed in the Superior Court of California for the County of Ventura by attorneys Howard S. Blumenthal and Ayda Mirafshar from Abir Cohen Treyzon Salo, LLP. According to the complaint, on August 19, 2023, Ramabadran was walking on a sidewalk near the defendants’ residence in Simi Valley when he was viciously attacked by their German Shepherd. The plaintiff asserts that the defendants failed to properly supervise or restrain their dog despite its known vicious tendencies.

Ramabadran claims that the defendants had a duty to exercise reasonable care in controlling their dog but breached this duty by allowing it to roam off-leash and unsupervised. This negligence allegedly resulted in severe bodily injuries for Ramabadran, including permanent scars and ongoing physical and emotional distress. “The injuries received have greatly impaired his health,” states the complaint, emphasizing the lasting impact on Ramabadran’s well-being.

In addition to negligence, Ramabadran is pursuing a second cause of action under California Civil Code Section 3342 for strict liability due to being bitten while lawfully present on public property. The plaintiff seeks general damages for pain and suffering, special damages for medical expenses incurred and anticipated future costs, as well as compensation for lost earnings and diminished earning capacity.

The legal team representing Ramabadran is seeking a jury trial to resolve these claims. They are asking for judgment against Regi and Varghese along with any other relief deemed appropriate by the court. This case underscores the potential legal consequences faced by pet owners who fail to manage their animals responsibly.

Representing Ramabadran are attorneys Howard S. Blumenthal and Ayda Mirafshar from Abir Cohen Treyzon Salo, LLP. The case is presided over at Ventura Superior Court under Case No.: 2025 CUPPO492448.
