Monique Blakes has taken legal action against a major automotive manufacturer, alleging multiple violations of statutory obligations concerning a vehicle she purchased. The complaint was filed by Monique Blakes in the Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento, on September 16, 2025, against General Motors LLC.

The lawsuit centers around a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer that Blakes purchased or leased from an authorized retailer in California. According to the complaint, the vehicle was primarily intended for personal use and came with both implied and express warranties from General Motors. These warranties promised to maintain the vehicle’s utility and performance and offered repairs at no cost should any defects arise during the warranty period. However, Blakes claims that her vehicle exhibited numerous defects affecting critical components such as the engine, powertrain, cooling system, steering system, and more. Despite multiple attempts to have these issues resolved through authorized repair facilities, Blakes alleges that General Motors failed to meet its warranty obligations.

Blakes accuses General Motors of breaching both implied and express warranties under California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. She asserts that the company did not replace or repurchase the defective vehicle nor provided adequate repairs within a reasonable timeframe as required by law. Specifically, she cites violations of several sections of the California Civil Code (§1793.2(d), §1794) which mandate timely replacement or restitution for defective vehicles.

In her lawsuit, Blakes seeks various forms of relief from the court. She is asking for damages exceeding $35,000 due to General Motors’ alleged failure to comply with warranty obligations. Additionally, she requests civil penalties amounting to twice her actual damages as permitted under California law for willful non-compliance by manufacturers. The complaint also demands reimbursement for consequential and incidental damages incurred due to the breach of warranty along with attorney fees and costs associated with filing this suit.

Representing Monique Blakes is attorney Matthew Pardo from Pardo Law PC based in Los Angeles. The case has been assigned to Judge Hon., under Case No. 2 Scr o2 vores.
