A California resident has taken legal action against a major automobile manufacturer, alleging significant breaches of warranty obligations related to a leased vehicle. Tanmay Laud filed the complaint on October 14, 2025, in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, against Ford Motor Company. The lawsuit accuses Ford of failing to honor both implied and express warranties under the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act.
According to the complaint, Tanmay Laud leased a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E in March 2024 from an authorized dealership in Orange County, California. The vehicle came with an express written warranty from Ford, promising maintenance and performance preservation or compensation for any failures during the warranty period. However, Laud claims that the vehicle developed multiple defects affecting its safety and usability, including electrical malfunctions in the infotainment system and issues with rear seatbelts and dashboard warning lights. Despite numerous attempts to have these defects repaired at Ford’s designated facilities, the problems persisted.
Laud asserts that Ford has wrongfully refused to repurchase the defective vehicle as required by California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. This act mandates manufacturers to replace or refund vehicles that fail to meet warranty standards after reasonable repair attempts. “Defendants have wrongfully refused…to repurchase the Vehicle,” states Laud in his complaint. He is seeking rescission of the purchase contract and restitution for all monies expended on the vehicle.
The plaintiff is pursuing several forms of relief from the court: general, special, and actual damages; rescission of the purchase contract; incidental and consequential damages; a civil penalty up to twice his total damages; costs of suit; attorney’s fees; prejudgment interest; and any other relief deemed just by the court. The case underscores ongoing consumer protection challenges within the automotive industry regarding warranty compliance.
Representing Tanmay Laud is David D. Lee from Proverbs 31:8 Law, PC. The case was filed under Case No.: 25CV477770 in front of Judge Y. Chavez at Santa Clara County’s Downtown Superior Court.
