In a significant legal move, a former employee has initiated a class-action lawsuit against a major corporation, alleging numerous violations of labor laws. The complaint was filed by Helen Romo on August 29, 2025, in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, targeting Abbott Cardiovascular Systems, Inc., and several unnamed defendants.
The lawsuit accuses Abbott Cardiovascular Systems of failing to comply with various labor standards over the past four years. Helen Romo, acting individually and as a representative for similarly situated employees, claims that the company systematically denied workers their rightful wages and benefits. The allegations include failure to pay all earned wages and overtime wages, not permitting paid rest periods or meal breaks as required by law, and not providing accurate wage statements. Furthermore, the complaint highlights that employees were often required to work “off-the-clock,” which led to unpaid overtime hours. These practices allegedly violate multiple sections of the California Labor Code and Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Orders.
Romo asserts that these actions have deprived her and other employees of fair compensation while unlawfully benefiting the company financially. She emphasizes that neither she nor her fellow class members were properly classified as exempt from these protections under California law. As such, they are entitled to recover unpaid wages along with interest and penalties for these violations.
The plaintiffs seek various forms of relief from the court including restitution for unpaid wages at proper rates, compensatory damages for economic losses suffered due to these unlawful practices, statutory penalties under applicable labor codes, and attorney’s fees. They also demand an injunction against Abbott Cardiovascular Systems to prevent further unfair business practices.
Representing Romo in this legal battle are attorneys Paul J. Denis and Ethan E. Rasi from Denis & Rasi PC alongside Robert W. Skripko Jr., all based in Irvine, California. The case is presided over by Judge M. Arechiga under Case No.: 25CV473960.
