In a compelling legal move, Ernesto Ponton has filed a class action lawsuit against Canon U.S.A., Inc., alleging significant labor violations. The complaint was lodged in the Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento, on February 24, 2026. Ponton accuses Canon U.S.A., Inc. of multiple infractions concerning employee rights and compensation.

Ernesto Ponton, represented by Shegerian & Associates, Inc., is bringing this case forward not only for himself but also on behalf of all similarly situated current and former hourly non-exempt employees of Canon U.S.A., Inc. in California. The lawsuit outlines numerous grievances against the defendant, including failure to provide meal periods and rest breaks, failure to pay minimum and overtime wages, and failure to furnish timely and accurate wage statements. These alleged violations are said to have been ongoing since at least four years prior to the filing date.

The plaintiff argues that Canon U.S.A., Inc.’s policies systematically deny employees their rightful wages by requiring them to work beyond their scheduled hours without proper compensation. “Defendants do not provide their employees with legally compliant meal periods and rest breaks nor premium pay in lieu thereof,” the complaint states. It further alleges that these practices are part of a broader pattern of labor law violations by the company across its various locations in California.

Ponton seeks a jury trial and demands judgment for unpaid wages, overtime compensation, penalties, interest, injunctive relief, damages, and reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs. The lawsuit also invokes California’s Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA), aiming to recover civil penalties for labor code violations on behalf of the state and other aggrieved employees.

Representing Ponton are attorneys Carney R. Shegerian, Anthony Nguyen, and Erik Dos Santos from Shegerian & Associates, Inc., based in Los Angeles. The case is being overseen by Judge I. Alonso under Case No.: 2B O04 So Se.
