Jeffrey Adam Crum has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in federal prison for assaulting a Deputy U.S. Marshal. The incident occurred when the marshal attempted to take Crum into custody following a court hearing. Senior U.S. District Judge Susan Illston delivered the sentence, which also includes an identical term for violating the conditions of his supervised release. Both sentences will run concurrently.

Crum, aged 34 and formerly residing in Burlingame and San Francisco, was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 3, 2024. He entered a guilty plea on May 16, 2025, to charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding a federal officer under 18 U.S.C. § 111(a)(1). According to court documents and his plea agreement, Crum appeared in federal court on November 22, 2024, regarding allegations of violating his supervised release terms after being convicted as a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition in Utah.

During the hearing about his supervised release violation, the district court ordered Crum’s detention pending further proceedings. Crum resisted this decision and opposed multiple Deputy U.S. Marshals’ efforts to detain him. He specifically resisted instructions related to entering and exiting an elevator leading to a holding cell, forcing marshals to carry him. At one point during the altercation, he kicked out with his legs and struck a Deputy U.S. Marshal in the head.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Craig H. Missakian and Supervisory Deputy United States Marshal David Siegel.

Crum was immediately taken into custody following the sentencing.

Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys Eli J. Cohen and Christine Chen prosecuted the case with assistance from Marina Ponomarchuk and Kevin Costello. The prosecution followed an investigation conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service.
