Omar Vayas Duran, a 45-year-old resident of Delano, has been sentenced to six years and eight months in federal prison for his involvement in distributing fentanyl. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Edward J. Davila, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Eric Grant.

Court records show that between September 23, 2020, and June 29, 2021, Duran conspired with Jesus Manuel Morfin Villa and others to obtain and distribute fentanyl. In one instance in June 2021, Duran provided Morfin Villa with about 2,000 counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl for distribution.

Morfin Villa, aged 31 and also from Delano, received a sentence of 14 years in prison on August 14, 2023. He was convicted for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl as well as possession with intent to distribute those substances.

The investigation into the case was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kimberly A. Sanchez and Cody S. Chapple prosecuted the case.
