A customer has filed a lawsuit against a major retail corporation, alleging negligence after a slip-and-fall incident at one of its store locations. Joanna Ruiz filed the complaint in the Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento, on August 28, 2025, naming Walmart Inc. and William Turner as defendants.

According to the court documents, Joanna Ruiz was shopping at a Walmart store located at 8455 Elk Grove Boulevard in Elk Grove, Sacramento County, on September 25, 2023. While navigating through aisles B24 and B25 between sections B6 and B7, she slipped on a slippery substance on the floor. The complaint asserts that Walmart Inc., along with store manager William Turner and other unnamed parties referred to as Does 1 through 50, were negligent in maintaining safe premises for customers. Ruiz claims that the defendants failed to control, inspect, and maintain the store properly, which resulted in her fall.

The plaintiff’s complaint highlights that the dangerous condition should have been known to the defendants with enough time for them to warn customers or rectify it. As a result of this alleged negligence, Ruiz sustained severe physical injuries causing significant pain and suffering. She further states that these injuries have led to substantial non-economic damages due to emotional distress and physical pain.

In addition to personal suffering, Ruiz claims economic damages resulting from medical expenses incurred due to her injuries. She mentions having employed health providers for examination and treatment following the incident and anticipates needing additional healthcare services in the future due to ongoing issues stemming from her fall. Moreover, Ruiz alleges that her ability to work has been compromised by her injuries; she was gainfully employed before the incident but now faces an uncertain future regarding her employment capabilities.

Ruiz is seeking a jury trial and prays for judgment against all named defendants. Her demands include compensation for both non-economic damages—such as pain and suffering—and economic damages related to medical costs and lost wages. Additionally, she seeks reimbursement for legal costs incurred during this process.

Representing Joanna Ruiz are attorneys Adam Blair Corren and Spencer D. Sinclair from the Law Offices of Corren & Corren based in Stockton, California. The case is being handled under Case No. 2Smwowvosra in the Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento.
