California Supreme Court schedules oral arguments and memorial for former justice

The California Supreme Court has scheduled an oral argument session for November 4, 2025, at its courtroom in the Ronald M. George State Office Complex, Earl Warren Building, in San Francisco. The session will be open to the public both in person and through a live-stream on the judicial branch website: https://supreme.courts.ca.gov/.

At 10:00 a.m., the court will hold an “In Memoriam” segment for Hon. Joseph R. Grodin, who served as Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court from 1982 to 1987.

The oral arguments will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the case Fuentes (Evangelina Yanez) v. Empire Nissan, Inc., et al., S280256. Stewart, P.J., is assigned as justice pro tempore for this matter.

At 1:30 p.m., two consolidated cases are scheduled: City of Gilroy v. Superior Court of Santa Clara County (Law Foundation of Silicon Valley, Real Party in Interest), S282937; and Law Foundation of Silicon Valley v. Superior Court of Santa Clara County (City of Gilroy, Real Party in Interest), S282950. A justice pro tempore will be assigned for these cases.

Following that, Sellers (Davonyae) v. Superior Court of Sacramento County (People, Real Party in Interest), S287164 is set to be heard with a justice pro tempore also to be assigned.

These sessions allow members of the public to observe proceedings either by attending at the courthouse or by accessing the live stream online.
