The California Department of Justice (DOJ) has opened an investigation into a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place in Alpine, California, on November 5, 2025. The incident involved personnel from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and resulted in the death of one individual.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta stated, “California Attorney General Rob Bonta today announced that the California Department of Justice (DOJ), pursuant to Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), is investigating and will independently review an officer-involved shooting (OIS) that occurred in Alpine, California on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m. The OIS incident involved personnel from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and resulted in the death of one individual.”
After being notified by local authorities, DOJ’s California Police Shooting Investigation Team began its work as required under AB 1506. Once their investigation is complete, it will be reviewed by DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent assessment.
